Jimmy (adopted December 2014)

Hi Leah and staff of Upper Credit Humane Society,

I am just writing an email to let you know that Jimmy is doing well and has fit right in as part of the family. He is absolutely wonderful! I hope Ollie finds a forever home too. Attached is a picture of Jimmy helping my husband paint!

Happy New Year!

Thanks for all you do,

Jennifer Moss

Ella (adopted March 13, 2014)

Ella was adopted from UCHS on March 13, 2014 and her family sent some photos to update us on how she is getting along in her new home. It looks like she has a new canine friend and a favourite spot on the couch.

Cajun (adopted June 28, 2014)

Hi there,
Thought I'd send out an update about Cajun who was adopted on June 28, 2014.

He has adjusted very well to his new home and is an amazing dog! Since he's been with us he's learned some new tricks but also surprised us with many tricks and skills he'd learned previously. He's always making us laugh with his goofy personality and gets along well with kids and adults.

He loves to visit my parents' farm and run around off leash through the fields and smell all the new and interesting smells. He's also traveled to Kyle's grandparents' cottage north of Peterborough and loves to wade in the lake.

Cajun has been a wonderful addition to our family and we look forward to many more years with this guy!

Jack (formerly James) - adopted Dec. 18, 2014

Hi ladies and  gents,

I thought I would give you an update on how James is doing - I know its only been a couple of days but I'm really pleased with how easy the transition was. His name is Jack now, and he's getting along great with everyone. The cats seem able to ignore him and Nero has shown him the ropes. He's not quite the couch potato/indoor dog everyone thought he was, though...He loves hikes on the Cataract Trail and play time in the back yard - he's got a ton of energy for an 11 year old!

Thanks,

Beth, Paul and Nero

Lily (adopted April 2012)

Lily was adopted from UCHS in April 2012. Her family recently shared some photos of her enjoying her favourite things at home.

Sterling (adopted May 16, 2014)

Sterling was adopted from the Upper Credit Humane Society in May 2014 and has fit in beautifully with his family. He is extremely happy and now tips the scales at 160 pounds.

Rona (adopted July 15, 2014)

Hi,

It's the Hahn family with our amazing dog Rona!

Rona has been great, and fit in as soon as she arrived at her new forever home. She is more than we could ask for. Rona keeps the family happy and active.

Soon after she got used to us we took her on a boating trip, she absolutely loves the wind in her face and her tongue flapping in the air. Rona also enjoys the water and loves to go swimming in the lake.

When we first brought her to the farm she was hesitant but got over that quickly and she now enjoys running in the fields, splashing around in the swamps and going on little adventures through the forests. She still hasn't quite gotten used to the horses but prefers playing with the cat. Rona is so sweet and loves everyone she meets, as well as all of our relatives' animals.

One thing that Rona really enjoys in snuggling up on the couch with her favourite teddy bear, as well as sleeping with our daughter Haley on her bed. Rona and her are best friends.

Rona waits at the door until we get home to greet us with hugs and kisses, she also likes playing outside with our son Ayden - they love a good game of tag.

Rona is really funny and makes everyone laugh, something that we love to watch is when she does "Crazy Rona". This is when she is at the farm and runs as fast as a racehorse around in circles until she stops to lie down then goes to get a drink!

We love Rona so much!

Thanks Upper Credit Humane Society.

Sincerely,

The Hahn Family

Peaches (adopted July 29, 2014)

I wanted to give you an update on our adoption of Peaches, the orange pixie Persian with special needs.

We brought Peaches home thinking that due to her senior age, health issues and potential territory conflicts with our other cats and dogs she'd probably prefer to live semi-isolated on the second floor of our home. It turns out that Peaches is far more spunky than we anticipated. When we first brought her home she hid from everybody, emerging from hiding only in the depths of the night to wander with her awkward, broken gait and inability to hit the litter box. The most notable thing about Peaches was that she didn't even try to clean herself and was afraid of being handled, both signs of how discouraged she'd become on her journey to our family.

It's been two months now and Peaches seems content in our busy home. At first it was just creeping out to establish her dominance over the kitchen. The next thing we knew she was lining up next to the big retriever, dachshund, cocker spaniel, kitten and adult marmalade cat to join the nightly petition for dinner. She reluctantly allows the maternal cocker spaniel to wash her ears and tolerates the ever lasting kitten games with patience, even occasionally joining in the mischief. The real turning point was a couple of weeks ago when she began washing her own face and body while on my lap for her nightly comb out. That was victory, both for our family and for Peaches. She now keeps herself clean while I'm in charge of tidy fur; she tells us when she wants to cuddle; enjoys lording it over our children and keeping the dogs and other cats in line; she mostly hits the litter box and is improving.

Thank you for taking in this tiny, elderly bundle of matted fur and helping her to a second chance. Her beauty enchants us; her courage to try again after a rough life is impressive. We love her and she gives us joy.

Tess (formerly Tasha) - adopted April 13, 2014

This is Tess (formerly Tasha) who was adopted from UCHS in April of this year. She's a sweet little soul and has settled well in her new home, especially loves her back yard.

Thank you for the Frisbee - she's been having a blast chasing it and not bringing it back.

Preston James (formerly Squeak) - adopted October 7, 2014

Amber and the team at Upper Credit,

Adrianna and I adopted male cat Squeak and I just wanted to let you know that he is doing great. Getter bigger everyday and healthy and happy. Wanted to say how much we appreciate the work you and the team are doing.

Take care and keep up the good work.

All the best,

Andrew K.

P.S. He is now known as Preston James, lol. Little royal self.

Latest news on Sterling (adopted May 16, 2014)

Sterling being helped over a large tree trunk on a recent hike

Sterling is enjoying his new life with his family

Sterling is fitting in well at home, and has become quite the celebrity in our neighborhood. Everyone wants to stop and say "Hi" to him and he adores every moment of it. We've started looking for different hiking destinations to take him on and recently discovered the Bruce Trail near Georgetown, he set the pace on our little adventure and enjoyed climbing through the rugged
terrain and splashing through streams and mud.

Riley (adopted Dec. 27, 2013)

Riley

Hi! Just wanted to give you a update like I promised about Riley. He is doing excellent! He's such a quiet old fella! But when he's in the mood he runs like a crazy man all around our back yard in and out of the bushes. He likes to play with the odd toad he finds lately in the backyard and has sadly killed a young squirrel too. He loves, loves his pillow but when he isn't in the mood to sleep he will follow me around the house and sit next to me when I am at the computer. We have been complimented on his good looks and his great behavior. Even my parents who dislike animals love him! So here's a recent picture of him looking all regal in our family room, on his beloved pillow. The only place he will sleep! He has made our home so full of love and happiness. Thank you!

Bonzo (formerly Hunter) - adopted February 27, 2014

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to update you on how Bonzo (formerly Hunter) is doing. He has fit in great...he comes to work with me and my crew pretty much everyday. You should see the looks we get with him hanging halfway out the back window the truck!
We are taking lessons at Scratch and Sniff Dog Training here in Guelph and he's doing great, though it's pretty obvious the lessons are for me, not him.
He has a great time out at the leash free park where after about a month I was comfortable enough to let him run on his own. We still need to work on the recall skills but it's only because he's having such a good time he loses track of where I am some times.
Anyways thanks for hooking us up. He's been a great addition to my life!
Thanks and see you soon,
Mike Post

Addy (formerly Kleo) and Possum

Possum and Addy
Hello everyone at the UCHS!

Just thought I'd update you on how well Awesome Possum (the kitty) and Addy (formerly Kleo) are doing!

Possum was adopted just over a year and a half ago, and Addy almost one year ago. They immediately became the best of friends when Addy arrived ... I think Possum likes her better than our other cat. The two of them snuggle gently and wrestle playfully all the time. While Possum started out very independent, she became quite cuddly over the winter months, and Addy ... well, Addy isn't happy unless she is curled up right next to you. I've never met such a cuddly dog! It's the best part of her.

The two of them are welcoming a baby brother - of the human variety - this summer and we have no doubt that they will both be great with him! Though Possum seems to think the crib is hers, so we'll see what happens there.

Please feel free to share the pic and their update story! Thanks for hooking us up with such great critters...they bring both chaos and calm into our otherwise boring home.

Cheers,

Kellyn

Tortellini celebrates her first birthday

May 21, 2014

Hello,

One year ago today we were contacted by Upper Credit about a 24-hour-old kitten in need of foster. At the time we had a nursing mother and two kittens and the hope was that the mother would care for her. Well no such luck!! Mama wanted nothing to do with the little kitten. So we decided to give it a shot and bottle feed this tiny 2 ounce kitten thinking she didn't stand much of a chance.

The tiny tortoiseshell hung on week by week and we nicknamed her "Tortellini". It was a long time before she was up to standard adoption weight but when the time came around to return her to the shelter my husband and I faltered. How could we possibly send her back?? But we already had 2 cats and a dog...well that didn't matter, little Tortellini had worked her way into our hearts and there was really only once choice. We would now be a three cat family! We officially adopted Tortellini as our own in November 2013 and haven't looked back since.

Yesterday Tortellini hit the 1 year mark and we couldn't be happier!

Jade (formerly known as Tina) - adopted May 16, 2014

Jade (formerly known as Tina)

Tina is doing very well. We have changed her name to Jade (the colour of her eyes) and she is responding to the change. It took her around two days to come out from under our bed but she is now walking around the house like she owns it :)

Thank you and the rest of the staff for managing this adoption program. We feel like our house is a home again with Jade in it.

Boots (adopted February 15, 2014) and Tahiti (adopted March 16, 2014)

Tahiti
Boots
My husband and I adopted both Boots (black and white cat) in Feb. 2014 and Tahiti (American Shorthair) in March 2014 from UCHS. Both of them are doing great and have adjusted so well to their new forever home.

Tahiti snuggling
with Robert Medeiros
Thank you for contacting us about Tahiti as she was previously returned twice. We really, really love her! Yes she has a bit of an attitude when she wants to, but we showed her a lot of love and now she is so happy. She gives both of us lots of kisses and absolutely adores my husband (and he feels the same way).

Boots is also wonderful, so happy and loving. I think they are both glad they were adopted into the same home, as they play together a lot and groom each other.

Thanks again,

Rebecca & Robert Medeiros

Levon (previously known as Sam) - adopted April 13, 2014

Michelle and Levon
Hello,

I wanted to email you guys an update about Sam or, as we call him now, Levon. He was the perfect addition! he is such a good boy, so loving, so gentle, and very curious about his new home. I knew when myself and my mom were down there Levon/Sam was the doggy for us. I absolutely adore him and so does everyone who meets him.

We took him to the dog park and boy-oh-boy he can run and play with the best of them! I wanted to email to say thank you, we are so grateful to have him in our lives.

We absolutely adore him and can't wait to spend many, many years to come. I attached a picture of myself and Levon/Sam hanging out on the front lawn, also I attached one of myself my brother and our boy Levon!

Once again thank you for everything! Levon/Sam is getting the love he absolutely deserves!!!

Sincerely,

Michelle E.

Lotte (formerly Biscotti) - adopted March 13, 2014

Biscotti (on lap) with Daniel Hebert
Biscotti (now Lotte) - a happy ending ...

Biscotti (on lap) has a new name. Since she is quite vocal, we named her after the late opera singer Lotte Lehmman. Lotte is adjusting perfectly. She bosses poor Missy the Shih Tzu (a rescue from last year), but Licky short for Liquorice, one of my two barn cats, is still in charge.

They are really bringing joy in my life. A few accidents once in a while are no problem. They are really lovely companions. They cheer me up when the weather is not wonderful, which was the case this Winter. I could never give them up. They are family. They always welcome me when I come from work. I just love my babies. Anyone should adopt a rejected dog. You never know what they have been through. I wish they could tell me their stories. Dear Abby could get some ideas from them.

Roxy (adopted Feb. 15, 2014)

Roxy

A note from Roxy’s new owner:

Who wakes me up in the morning.
Sings me to sleep at night.
Loves her hair brushed.
Needs to be fed, cleaned and loved.
Her name is Roxy.
She brings a smile to my face,
And a song in my heart.
With a nudge now and then I am
Learning how she wants things done.

Boo (adopted March 29, 2014)

Boo

 Hi there,

Just wanted to let you know that Boo is doing great! What a delightful little cat! Took her 2 days to come out of her shell but now she is this energetic, snuggly little ball of energy. Follows us around like a shadow and "talks" to us in the Maine Coon cat way. She is getting along amazingly with our 10-year old Maine Coon. It's like they have both lived here together for years. I am sure there will be a few "incidents" over the next few weeks but totally pleased with the way it has worked so far. I will send some pics along soon.

Thanks!

Temperance (adopted March 23, 2014)

Temperance

Just a short note to let you know Temperance is adjusting great at her new forever home. She is so super sweet and such a cuddler. We all love her to bits already.

Salem – our other senior cat who is also 15 - is slowly coming around and I think that they will bond nicely.

She is meant to be a part of our family. Thank you for taking such good care of her.

Sincerely,

Nero (formerly known as Maxwell)

Nero

Hi guys,

Time has gone by and I wanted to send a big thank you.

Everyone at Upper Credit Humane Society worked hard to find a home for a troubled young dog that I adopted a few years ago. Thank you for giving this kid another chance. We are so happy together. I've never met a dog more loyal. The kid has his issues, but I knew what I was getting into and it's amazing what stability, patience, and positive training can do.

Years later and his tail still wags every time I look at him. I can't be in a bad mood when he does his happy dance before we go to the park. Everyday I rush home to see that face. This dog means the world to me. You have no idea. Years later and I'm still giddy when I think about him. I'm so lucky I got this dog. We were made for each other.

When he was adopted everyone was so happy he found a home and considered him a very lucky dog. I think I'm the one that is lucky to have him. Seriously, he’s such a good dog. He won't wrong you. He thrives off being a good boy.

Thank you guys so much for saving my dog. He is family. I can't imagine life without this kid.

Your staff do what they do to better the lives of animals. No one says thank you. Please tell your shelter staff, from the bottom of my and Nero's heart, thank you!

Alice Cooper and Josephine (adopted Dec. 30, 2013)

Dear Friends at the Upper Credit Humane Society,

It's already been a month since I arrived at Johanna's. Can't believe how quickly time goes when you're having fun. As you can tell from the pictures, life is exciting. I have my own space filled with delightful things like dried leaves, dried grass, wood shavings and straw. My front door is a tunnel out into the main area of the chicken coop and to a door outside where I can romp in the snow, kick up my heels and nibble on last year's Christmas tree. At night, when the chickens are up on the roost (silly creatures) and the hatch is closed, I can roam around and bask in the warmth of the heat lamp, if I want to, that is. Most of the time I hang out in my own apartment where I get served tasty tidbits (pellets, oatmeal, carrots, cabbage, etc, etc.).

Did you know that it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago? I turned 66 :-)

Hope all is well with you and thanks again for the wonderful care while I was with you.

Alice Cooper

Dear Friends,

Just want you to know that life is good with me too. For the moment, I'm living in a little room with lots of plants and a cat named Ko-Ko who tells me she hates the other cats. I don't have a very big cage, but I can hop out any time I want. When spring comes, I'll get to go outside with everyone else. Meanwhile, I'm having fun.

Thanks for looking after me too while I was with you.

Josephine
