Peaches (adopted July 29, 2014)

I wanted to give you an update on our adoption of Peaches, the orange pixie Persian with special needs.

We brought Peaches home thinking that due to her senior age, health issues and potential territory conflicts with our other cats and dogs she'd probably prefer to live semi-isolated on the second floor of our home. It turns out that Peaches is far more spunky than we anticipated. When we first brought her home she hid from everybody, emerging from hiding only in the depths of the night to wander with her awkward, broken gait and inability to hit the litter box. The most notable thing about Peaches was that she didn't even try to clean herself and was afraid of being handled, both signs of how discouraged she'd become on her journey to our family.

It's been two months now and Peaches seems content in our busy home. At first it was just creeping out to establish her dominance over the kitchen. The next thing we knew she was lining up next to the big retriever, dachshund, cocker spaniel, kitten and adult marmalade cat to join the nightly petition for dinner. She reluctantly allows the maternal cocker spaniel to wash her ears and tolerates the ever lasting kitten games with patience, even occasionally joining in the mischief. The real turning point was a couple of weeks ago when she began washing her own face and body while on my lap for her nightly comb out. That was victory, both for our family and for Peaches. She now keeps herself clean while I'm in charge of tidy fur; she tells us when she wants to cuddle; enjoys lording it over our children and keeping the dogs and other cats in line; she mostly hits the litter box and is improving.

Thank you for taking in this tiny, elderly bundle of matted fur and helping her to a second chance. Her beauty enchants us; her courage to try again after a rough life is impressive. We love her and she gives us joy.

Tess (formerly Tasha) - adopted April 13, 2014

This is Tess (formerly Tasha) who was adopted from UCHS in April of this year. She's a sweet little soul and has settled well in her new home, especially loves her back yard.

Thank you for the Frisbee - she's been having a blast chasing it and not bringing it back.
